The listing to the Dorrvi, a Dorrvi /-ab Jophur -ab Poa / -ul Voam-Voam, in the original Terragen Field Agents' Guidebook is rather lacking in detail. In fact it was really nothing more than a compilation of past dates and present occupations. It was dry and totally useless to an agent.

More has been discovered. Though more or less by accident.

Sex.

There isn't really any except for procreation. There's absolutely no connection between the genitalia and the albeit rather limited pleasure center in the dorrvi brain. The Dorrvi book of Kama Sutra would be only one page, double spaced, and in a very large, bold, and undoubtedly sans serif font. This reproductive fact has once again added fuel to the fire of the Darwinian debate. Since no uplifted race has gone through the evolutionary process unaltered by a patron race, no one can answer the question as to what the race would have become if they were allowed to progress unaltered. An example of the perfect circular logic of a treadmill that's also been turned into a Mobius Strip.

Marriage.

There isn't any. The Dorrvi live and exist in clan units. And there isn't enough personal identity in a single dorrvi for there to be any cause for desire or jealousy.

The Dorrvi are the right-tentacled men of the Jophur. But we now know that they were bred to be so. It's not that ambition was bred out of the race, it's that the ambition to serve was bred into them. This condition exists both individually and as a race.

They exist to serve. In simple Anglic terms, you can think of the general analogy that they strive to become the perfect butlers.

But don't go confusing them by calling one of them, 'Jeeves.'

And the term, 'one of them,' doesn't really exist. That's where all Terragen Field Agents had failed in the past. We were trying to get a single Dorrvi away from the others to try to get both some personal information and the er's opinions on the Jophur and the other dorrvi in its group.

A single dorrvi soon dies. The less the expectation of its ability to rejoin its group, the quicker it ceases to be.

Remember that rather small pleasure center?

It _is_ tied to the back.

Those proportionally itty-bitty hands can't reach over forty percent of their own body. They exist as a group because by only having others present can one be groomed.

Chimps will better understand this fact than the poor, less hirsute, humans.

And the accident that lead to these discoveries?

An agent disobeyed orders.

Though nearly countless light-years away from Earth, he just had to remain a Texan.

He kept his accent.

When he viewed one dorrvi grooming another, he suggested that, "I can help you with your spine."

Now a good Southern drawl tends to stretch out some monosyllabic words into a bit more than the true single syllable that the Oxford Anglic Dictionary so sanctions the word to be.

And in answer to the statement, "I can help you with your spine," a dorrvi replied, "Why would you want to betray your own Clan?"

The agent lapsed into a bit of cursing. The Dorrvi took on an air of embarrassment, and in finally getting things straightened out, these new bits of information were obtained.

Despite the end result of this encounter, agents are still reminded of the current strong penalties against the use of regional accents.

And as to the use of Anglic phrases, one need only be reminded of what happened to the civilian who went up to the two Skiano who were processing fish and asked, "Can you deal me in for a cut?"

.....they did.
